[Media release] NASA Scientist to Governor: Oppose Controversial Big Stone II Coal Plant

Expert writes governor, asks for investment in clean, renewable energy

Dr. James E. Hansen, head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, is urging Governor Tim Pawlenty to publicly oppose the proposed Big Stone II coal plant to curb global warming pollution and halt escalating energy costs. [Read Dr. Hansen's letter to Governor Palwenty.]

The state of Minnesota has jurisdiction over the transmission lines from the proposed plant to be located in Milbank, South Dakota. Most of the power would be sold to Minnesota ratepayers. The decision to allow the lines rests with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.  ...read more »
