NGO Tips for YouTube’s Nonprofit Program

YouTube’s Nonprofit Program is growing steadily, and organizations are finding it increasingly more useful to promote their issues through this free avenue. (Watch the YouTube video below to learn how to sign up.) YouTube put together a short video, explaining five tips that every nonprofit should bear in mind when producing a viral video. Check out the video, or read the tips below for a quick recap.

  • Reach Out. Use YouTube’s Nonprofit Program to start and continue dialogue. As YouTube puts it, don’t think of it as a shrunken TV screen, think of it as an interactive window.
  • Partner Up. In RE-AMP style, link up with allied organizations to create a stronger voice. Use YouTube to network.
  • Keep it Fresh. Continue to come up with new ideas and videos. Consider making your videos episodic or series-themed. It will encourage supporters to sign up for alerts when new videos go up.
  • Spread Your Message. It’s the whole idea. Use the embed code to post on other sites.
  • Be Genuine. In the words of YouTube, authenticity speaks volumes. Be sincere, and it will translate to video.
