Arguably, the public's initial concern over Big Stone II lies in the damage it will do to the air. However, recent news shows that there is another large concern-- the damage it will do to the water. Clean-river-advocacy organization American Rivers named the Minnesota River one of the country's top endangered rivers. South Dakota has approved Big Stone II officials to tap into approximately 6.4 billion gallons of river and ground water to serve the needs of the project. Clean Up the River Environment joined other grassroots organizations and Representatives Aaron Peterson, Kate Knuth, Frank Moe and Rick Hanson to oppose the plant at the Minnesota Capitol.
