WASHINGTON - South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds joined dozens of other governors Monday in lobbying President Bush to support efforts to wean the nation from foreign energy sources and develop new domestic sources of alternative energy.
It was an easy sell, said Rounds, who was in town for the annual winter meeting of the National Governors Association.
Bush supports the governors' drive to develop alternative energy and was up to speed on cellulosic ethanol's technical challenges, Rounds said after the hourlong meeting at the White House. But Bush also told the governors that traditional energy sources will remain an important part of the nation's energy mix for years to come, Rounds said.
