BISMARCK, N.D. - Basin Electric Power Cooperative has selected a South Dakota site as its preferred location for a coal-fired power plant.

The Bismarck-based company's board of directors voted Wednesday for the site near Selby, S.D., after evaluating more than a dozen factors for the so-called NextGen plant, spokesman Floyd Robb said.

The site selection does not mean the project, which could cost as much as $2 billion, is a done deal, Robb said.
