PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Mike Rounds' plan to provide more tax incentives to encourage construction of wind-energy towers was approved Wednesday by a South Dakota House committee.
A reduction in property taxes for wind towers was passed in 2003, but it is no longer effective because the cost of towers has risen substantially, said Hunter Roberts of the state Department of Tourism and State Development.
South Dakota is having trouble attracting new wind towers because Minnesota and North Dakota now have better tax incentives, Roberts said.
