MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Americans should depend more on the Midwest than the Middle East for energy, Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle said Wednesday at the start of a regional summit on energy and climate change.
The region's farms, manufacturing base and research institutes, "position the Midwest to become the Saudi Arabia of renewable energy," said Doyle, chairman of the Midwestern Governors Association.
"If Midwest farm fields are competing with Middle East oil fields, then we are doing something right," he said.
