Springfield begins its new wind power contract this Sunday, July 1st, making Illinois the first state to have a wind-powered capitol building.
The agreement between the Sierra Club and Springfield's publicly owned utility, CWLP calls for Springfield to purchase 120 mega watts of wind power.
Half of the wind power will be used by the state to power state facilities, including the capitol building.
