Minnesota's Vow to Cut Emissions

As stated below corresponding to "Coal-lovin' Governor," many clean-energy advocates do not feel that Minnesota is as committed to reducing global warming emissions as promised. Dennis Lien with the Pioneer Press reports on this subject at http://www.twincities.com/ci_6912999.

The move is part of Mayor Cieslewicz's 100K Clean Energy Challenge, which attempts to reduce the city's CO2 emissions 100,000 tons by the year 2011. The ruling puts a huge amount of uncertainty in the marketplace, Miller said, noting that every coal-fired plant on the drawing board just became a lot more uncertain. "The financial community probably will be unwilling to loan money," he added, because building costs could grow with new emission controls.
